Franklin Delano Roosevelt, also known as FDR, was the 32nd President of the United States, serving from 1933 to 1945. He was a central figure in world events during the mid-20th century, leading the United States during a time of worldwide economic depression and total war.

Born in Hyde Park, New York, in 1882, FDR was the son of James and Sara Roosevelt. He attended Groton School and later graduated from Harvard University. In 1905, he married his fifth cousin, Eleanor Roosevelt, who would become a key advisor and supporter throughout his political career.

FDR entered politics in 1910, serving in the New York State Senate. He was later appointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy by President Woodrow Wilson, and in 1920, he ran for vice president on the Democratic ticket. He was unsuccessful, but in 1928 he was elected Governor of New York.

In 1932, FDR was elected President of the United States, defeating incumbent Herbert Hoover. During his presidency, he implemented the New Deal, a series of programs and reforms aimed at helping the country recover from the Great Depression. He also led the United States through World War II, working closely with Allied leaders such as Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin.

FDR died in office in 1945, just months before the end of the war. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest presidents in American history, credited with leading the country through some of its most difficult times and helping to restore hope and confidence.
